The Importance of Preventive Pet Healthcare
Effective ways to get the process started
The Lone Mountain Veterinary Hospital team
When asked to describe the Partners for Healthy Pets website, Dr. Katie Roberts of Lone Mountain Veterinary Hospital says, “it’s a goldmine for us.” Dr. Roberts has been an associate veterinarian for over five years at the Carson City, NV practice and says preventive healthcare has been a priority for years. “For the past two years, our hearts have been in [developing] a wellness plan,” says Roberts, “and I want to pioneer it.”
Dr. Roberts thought the Partners for Healthy Pets website was a good way to get the process started. As she says, “it was so great to find.” She has reviewed the team training videos and has plans for monthly staff training. Together, with practice owner Margie Quirk, LVT, they have their sights set on aligning the staff and clients on the importance of preventive healthcare. “We’re always trying to educate clients. The more they know, the better the clients they are,” says Dr. Roberts, “we believe so strongly about preventive medicine.” Why put in so much effort? “It’s better to catch things earlier because it improves the pet’s quality of life and life span.”
