Model and Active Associate Member: The Colorado Veterinary Medical Association
The CVMA encourages its members to utilize PHP tools.
Ralph Johnson, Executive Director of the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association
The Colorado Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) is a model and active Partners for Healthy Pets associate member.
“We try to walk the talk,” says Ralph Johnson, Executive Director of the CVMA since 2000. “We’ve reviewed all of the PHP tools and we try to use every venue of ours to promote the PHP message that yearly checkups are essential to all patients’ health.” The CVMA has used PHP videos at conventions and published articles about preventive healthcare in member communications. The association has also featured practice communication experts such as Drs. Jason Coe, Karen Felsted and Ms. Karyn Gavzer who have developed their message around the PHP initiative.
The CVMA encourages its members to utilize PHP tools. When asked if any particular resource stands out, Mr. Johnson replies, “We’re enthused about the forward booking initiative and how effective it can be to practices.” He also adds that Michael Warren’s social media tools on the PHP website have been useful for CVMA as well as its members. Dr. Warren has lectured for CVMA and is hosting a webinar series for the association.
While on the topic of social media, Mr. Johnson says the PHP Facebook page, Pet Wellness Pulse, is also an effective strategy to help practices. “We share the posts on our page, remind our members about it and show how easy it is to incorporate it into their strategy to connect with new and existing clients.” For more insight from CVMA Executive Director, Ralph Johnson, click here.
In addition, Mr. Johnson feels it’s a great thing that PHP and the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) are jointly promoting the Preventive Pet Healthcare Champion Workbook. He says, “Veterinary practice team members, such as technicians, can own this initiative and use the workbook as a guide. The veterinarian or practice owner can empower the team and say, ‘you have my full support. Now go and own it.’” As CVMA Executive Director for almost two decades, Mr. Johnson is very familiar with the personality traits of veterinarians. He says with a smile, “Remember, doctors don’t have to do everything.”
